farm Fresh Eggs

Our eggs are the first thing we started selling when we moved to the homestead. We started with a small flock of about 30 laying hens and 2 ducks. We have now grown to over 70 laying chickens and 33 ducks. Every year we supplement our flock with new layers to provide a diverse assortment of colors and sizes.

Here are some important things to know about our eggs.

allergen free eggs

We feed our laying chickens and ducks an organic, soy and corn free grain mix from Kentucky Organic Farm & Feed, Inc. You can see the feed ingredients and the nutritional breakdown for the feed we provide here. While we provide only this food to our layers, chickens will be chickens and they do sometimes roam from their area and get into the feed of other animals on our farm, which may contain soy or corn. Please treat our eggs as you would any product manufactured in a setting that also processes allergens. While we do our best to prevent access to them, there is the possibility that they have been consumed.

CERTIFIED CANDLER

Heather, the owner of Brigid’s Bounty Farm, is a licensed egg candler in the state of Georgia.

why different colors and assorted sizes?

Ours is a mixed flock. We have many different breeds of chicken, and each breed lays a different size and color egg. While you may receive all brown eggs one week, and several blue, green, or olive eggs the next, be assured that the nutrient content is all equal, and that we guarantee each egg in your dozen is, at minimum, a medium sized egg.* You can also be assured that each egg you receive has been carefully washed, candled, and meets the Georgia minimum criteria of Grade B required for sale, with most being Grade A or AA.

why aren’t your eggs always available??

We are not a commercial egg producing facility. We are an overgrown backyard flock who likes to share our joy and bounty with our community for an appropriate exchange of energy.

Chickens and ducks are people too. They have bad days, or just don’t have the energy to produce an egg. As much as we try to give them a stress free, relaxing environment to live and thrive in, chicken drama is a thing.

Then there’s molting season.

Also, while our birds are relatively healthy, there are times we may need to administer medication, which may require a withdrawal period.**

All of that to say that sometimes, we just don’t have any eggs available.

For that, we do apologize profusely for any inconvenience, and like all farmers, we are at the mercy of Mother Nature and her flock.

*Per the U.S.D.A. egg sizing charts (by weight): Medium = 1.75 oz; Large = 2.0 oz; Jumbo = 2.25 oz

**We NEVER use a medication NOT ALLOWED for food producing animals on our livestock, and when administration is necessary, we follow all vet and USDA recommendations for egg and meat withdrawal.
